Blurry photos and spots on iPhone camera: why it happens

Blurry photos when the camera appears intact almost always means a damaged protective camera glass: micro-cracks and scratches scatter light, halos appear around light sources, and the shot loses sharpness. Camera glass is replaced separately from the module itself — this is noticeably cheaper than replacing the entire camera.

How to understand what's wrong

  • Halos and haze in backlit conditions, photos are normal in daylight. Scratched or cracked camera glass.
  • The same spot on every shot, in the exact same place. Dust or moisture under the glass or on the sensor.
  • Photos are sharp, but "breathe" and blur during recording. Damaged optical stabilization — after a drop.
  • Only one of the modules is blurry (for example, ultra-wide, while telephoto is clear) — it's definitely an optics issue, not software.
  • Blur disappears after restarting the Camera app — this is a software glitch, repair is not needed.

Where does the spot inside come from

Most often — a crack in the glass through which dust and moisture enter. Second reason — temperature fluctuations: the phone was brought from frost to warmth, and condensation settled under the lens. Third — a drop with no visible damage: inside the module, the lens shifts or the stabilization suspension crumbles.

What the service does

The camera glass is replaced separately: the old one is removed, the mounting area is cleaned, a new one is installed and sealed. Dust and spots inside the module are removed by restoration — the camera is opened in clean conditions and the sensor is cleaned. If the sensor itself or stabilization is damaged, the module is replaced entirely.

What you shouldn't do

Don't rub camera glass with abrasive and "glass polishes" — scratches will increase and scattering will worsen. Sealing a crack with film is also not an option: dust is already inside, and the film adds another layer that distorts light. The cheapest solution is to replace the glass before dust reaches the sensor; you can book a diagnostic appointment on any day.
